Meaning and history
Natálie comes from the Roman name Natalis or Natalia, from Latin natalis meaning “relating to birth” or “birthday,” and especially the birthday of Jesus, which gave it the additional sense of “Christmas Day.” It was the name of the wife of the 4th-century martyr Saint Adrian of Nicomedia, who is venerated in the Orthodox Church, and the name has traditionally been more common among Eastern Christians than in the West. In America, it was popularized by actress Natalie Wood (1938–1981), who was born to Russian immigrants.
