From Egyptian nfrt-jjtj, meaning “the beautiful one has come,” Nefertiti was a powerful Egyptian queen of the New Kingdom in the 14th century BC and the principal wife of Akhenaten, the pharaoh who briefly introduced a monotheistic religion centered on the sun god Aten.
