From Greek νέφος (nephos), meaning “cloud,” Nephele was a figure in Greek legend created by Zeus from a cloud shaped to resemble Hera in order to deceive Ixion, who desired her. She was the mother of the centaurs by Ixion and also of Phrixus and Helle by Athamas.
