Meaning and history
This name comes from the Latin Neptunus, whose meaning is unknown but may be related to the Indo-European root *nebh- meaning “wet, damp, clouds.” In Roman mythology, Neptune was the god of the sea and roughly equivalent to the Greek Poseidon. It is also the name of the eighth planet in the solar system.
