Meaning and history
Nikephoros means “carrying victory,” from Greek νίκη (nike), “victory,” and φέρω (phero), “to carry” or “to bear.” It was borne by several Byzantine emperors, including Nikephoros II Phokas of the 10th century, and it was also used as a masculine personal name and as a title of the goddess Athena.
