Nikola is a form of Nicholas used across the Balkans and eastern Europe, from Greek elements meaning "victory of the people." It is traditionally masculine in Slavic languages but feminine in some western European usage. Famous bearers include Serbian-American inventor Nikola Tesla and Montenegrin king Nikola I.
