Meaning unknown. In Arthurian legend, Nimue is a sorceress also called the Lady of the Lake, Vivien, or Niniane; in some versions, Merlin falls in love with her and is then imprisoned by her magic. She first appears in the medieval French Lancelot-Grail Cycle.
