Noëlla is the French feminine form of Noël. Noël comes from French noël, “Christmas,” ultimately from Latin natalis, “birthday,” referring to the birth of Christ. The diaeresis shows that the vowels are pronounced separately and is part of the standard spelling. Notable bearers include French Resistance member and Holocaust survivor Noëlla Rouget and Belgian politician Noëlla Dinant. Noelle is the common English form, while Noëlla retains a distinctly French feminine ending.
