Meaning and history
Oktawiusz is the Polish form of Octavius. Octavius was a Roman family name derived from Latin octavus, meaning “eighth,” perhaps originally referring to birth order or the eighth month in an older calendar. Gaius Octavius became the emperor Augustus, giving the name major Roman historical significance. A notable bearer was Polish classical scholar and Byzantinist Oktawiusz Jurewicz. Oktawia is the corresponding Polish feminine form, while Octavian is a related name.
