Meaning and history
Onesiphorus is the Latinized form of the Greek name Ὀνησίφορος (Onesiphoros), meaning “bringing advantage” or “beneficial.” The name appears briefly in Paul’s second epistle to Timothy in the New Testament, and tradition says he was martyred by being tied to horses and torn apart.
