Meaning and history
Ophrah is a biblical Hebrew place name and occasional personal name. Several locations called Ophrah appear in the Hebrew Bible, including the home of Gideon, but the name’s exact etymology is uncertain; it has often been associated with Hebrew words for a fawn or dust. It should not be confused with Orpah, the name of Ruth’s sister-in-law, or with Oprah, whose spelling developed from Orpah. Reliable prominent real-life bearers using exactly Ophrah are limited.
