Ove is a Scandinavian masculine name, especially Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish. It is the modern form of an Old Danish name, Aghi or Aki-related in some treatments, but its precise Germanic derivation and meaning remain uncertain. It should not automatically be equated with every similarly spelled Norse name. Notable bearers include Swedish footballer Ove Kindvall and Swedish motorcycle speedway champion Ove Fundin. The name is also widely recognized through the title character of Fredrik Backman’s novel A Man Called Ove.
