Oxana is an alternate transcription of the Ukrainian name Oksana, which developed as a vernacular form of Xenia. Xenia comes from Greek xenia, meaning “hospitality,” or xenos, “guest” or “stranger.” Saint Xenia of Rome and Saint Xenia of Saint Petersburg helped establish the name’s Orthodox Christian associations.
