Meaning and history
Pancras is the English form of Greek Pankratios, composed of pan, “all,” and kratos, “power” or “strength,” giving “all-powerful.” Saint Pancras was a young Roman martyr traditionally said to have died during Diocletian’s persecution, and churches dedicated to him gave their name to the London district and railway station of St Pancras. Modern personal use is rare. Pancratius and Pancrazio are related Latin and Italian forms.
