Pandora means “all gifts,” from Greek πᾶν (pan), “all,” and δῶρον (doron), “gift.” In Greek mythology, Pandora was the first mortal woman, and Zeus gave her a jar containing the troubles and ills of humankind, warning her not to open it; when curiosity led her to do so, she released the evil spirits into the world.
