Parvati means “of the mountains,” from the Sanskrit पर्वत (parvata), “mountain.” In Hinduism, she is the goddess of love and power and the benign form of Shiva’s wife. As the daughter of the mountain god Himavat and the reincarnation of Shiva’s first wife, Sati, she is also the mother of Ganesha and Skanda.
