Meaning and history
Pegasus comes from the Greek Πήγασος (Pegasos), possibly from πηγός (pegos), meaning “strong,” or πηγαῖος (pegaios), meaning “from a water spring.” In Greek mythology, Pegasus was the winged horse that sprang from Medusa’s blood after she was killed by Perseus, and its name was later given to a constellation in the northern sky.
