Pollux is the Roman form of Greek Πολυδεύκης (Polydeukes), meaning “very sweet,” from πολύς (polys), “much,” and δευκής (deukes), “sweet.” In mythology, he was the twin brother of Castor and a son of Zeus, and the constellation Gemini, which represents the two brothers, includes a star by this name.
