Meaning and history
Prosper comes from the Latin name Prosperus, meaning “fortunate” or “successful.” It was borne by a 5th-century saint who supported Saint Augustine, and although it has never been common in English, the Puritans did use it partly because it matches the English word prosper.
In 2025, 33 babies were recorded with the name Prosper, ranking #3,450 among boys.
