Meaning and history
Pyrrhus comes from the Greek name Πύρρος (Pyrrhos), meaning “flame-colored” or “red,” and is related to πῦρ (pyr), meaning “fire.” It was another name of Neoptolemus, the son of Achilles, and also the name of a 3rd-century BC king of Epirus known for his costly victories against Rome.
