Meaning and history

Quetzalcoatl means “feathered snake” in Nahuatl, from quetzalli, meaning “quetzal feather” or “precious thing,” and cōātl, meaning “snake.” In Aztec and other Mesoamerican mythology, he was the god of the sky, wind, and knowledge and was also associated with the morning star. One legend says he created the humans of the present age from the bones of people from the previous age and his own blood.
