From Egyptian rꜥ meaning “sun” or “day,” Ra was an important Egyptian sun god originally worshipped in Heliopolis in Lower Egypt. He was usually shown as a man with a falcon’s head and a solar disc, and in later periods his traits were often combined with those of other deities, including Amon, Atum, and Horus.
