Meaning and history
Meaning unknown. In Geoffrey of Monmouth’s chronicles, Regan is the treacherous daughter of King Leir, a story later adapted by Shakespeare in his tragedy King Lear (1606). In modern use, the name also appears in the horror film The Exorcist (1973) as that of a girl possessed by the devil, and it may also be used as a variant of Reagan.
