Reza is the usual Persian form of Arabic Riḍā, meaning “contentment,” “satisfaction,” or “approval.” The name has major Shia Muslim significance through Ali al-Ridha, the eighth Imam, known in Persian as Imam Reza; his shrine in Mashhad is an important pilgrimage site.
