Meaning and history
Rhonda is probably a blend of the sounds of Rhoda and Linda, though it may also have been influenced by the Rhondda Valley in South Wales and by the British feminist Margaret Mackworth, Viscountess Rhondda (1883–1956). The name has been in use only since the early 20th century and was initially rare, but it grew more popular in the mid-1940s alongside the rise of the American actress Rhonda Fleming (1923–2020), born Marilyn Louis. In the United States, it reached its peak in 1965 and then declined.
