Rodolfo is the Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese form of Rudolf. The Germanic name combines elements meaning “fame” or “glory” and “wolf,” giving the traditional interpretation “famous wolf.” It was borne by medieval rulers including Rudolf I of Germany and appears in opera as Rodolfo, the poet in Giacomo Puccini’s La bohème. Notable real-life bearers include Italian fashion designer Rodolfo Gucci and Mexican actor and filmmaker Rodolfo de Anda. The related English form is Rudolph.
