Meaning and history
Rolf comes from the Old German name Hrolf, or its Old Norse cognate Hrólfr, a shortened form of Hrodulf (see Rudolf). The Normans brought the name to England, where it quickly became rare, though in modern times it has occasionally been used in the English-speaking world as a German import.
