Ronald is the Scottish form of Ragnvaldr, a name brought to Britain by Scandinavian settlers and invaders. It became more widely used outside Scotland in the 20th century. Notable bearers include the American actor and president Ronald Reagan (1911–2004), and the name is also associated with Ronald McDonald, the clown mascot for McDonald’s, first appearing in 1963.
