Meaning and history
Samanta is a form of Samantha used in Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, and several other languages. Samantha appeared in English by the eighteenth century, but its original formation and meaning are uncertain; theories combining Samuel with Greek anthos, “flower,” are speculative rather than established. Samanta therefore should not be given a confident ancient translation. Notable bearers include Argentine writer Samanta Schweblin and Latvian singer Samanta Tīna, whose stage name retains the form.
