Meaning and history
Sami has several independent uses. In Arabic it is a masculine name meaning “elevated” or “sublime,” while in Finnish it is a form of Samuel; it should not be confused with the name of the Indigenous Sámi people. Finnish musician Sami Yaffa and Syrian poet Sami al-Jundi are notable bearers.
In 2025, 193 babies were recorded with the name Sami, ranking #1,112 among boys.
