Meaning and history
Sandhya is an Indian feminine name from Sanskrit saṃdhyā, meaning “junction” or “twilight,” especially the meeting of day and night. In Hindu tradition, sandhyā also denotes ritual periods of prayer at dawn, noon, and dusk and is personified as a goddess in some texts. The name therefore has both natural and religious associations. Notable bearers include Indian actor Sandhya Mridul and Bengali playback singer Sandhya Mukhopadhyay, also known as Sandhya Mukherjee.
In 2018, 5 babies were recorded with the name Sandhya, ranking #15,682 among girls.
