Sébastien is the French form of Sebastian, from the Greek name Sebastianos, meaning “from Sebaste”; the place-name itself derives from sebastos, “venerable.” The name spread through devotion to the early Christian martyr Saint Sebastian. French rally driver Sébastien Loeb and footballer Sébastien Haller are notable bearers.
