Seth comes from a Hebrew name meaning "placed" or "set." In the Old Testament, Seth is the third named son of Adam and Eve, born after Abel's death, and an ancestor of Noah. The biblical name entered English use after the Protestant Reformation and is distinct from the similarly spelled Egyptian god Seth. Modern bearers include actor and filmmaker Seth Rogen and writer and producer Seth MacFarlane.
