Meaning and history
Shevon is a modern English phonetic variant of Siobhán, the Irish form of Joan or Jane. The name ultimately derives from Hebrew Yehochanan, meaning “Yahweh is gracious.” Because Shevon reproduces the approximate sound rather than the traditional Irish spelling, it is especially found in English-speaking communities outside Ireland. It may occasionally arise through unrelated modern naming patterns, so family context matters. A notable bearer is Jamaican Olympic hurdler and singer Shevon Stoddart.
In 2007, 5 babies were recorded with the name Shevon, ranking #17,636 among girls.
