Meaning and history
From an Old Testament place name, possibly meaning “tranquil” in Hebrew, Shiloh is also used prophetically in the Old Testament to refer to a person, often understood as the Messiah, as in Genesis 49:10, though this may be a mistranslation. The name gained wider public attention in 2006 when actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt gave it to their daughter.
Shiloh rose from #334 to #278 for boys between 2024 and 2025. That year also produced its highest recorded birth count, at 1,220.
