Spyridon is a Late Greek name derived from Greek σπυρίδιον (spyridion), meaning “basket,” or from Latin spiritus, meaning “spirit.” It is associated with Saint Spyridon, a 4th-century sheep farmer who became bishop of Tremithus and suffered during the persecutions of Emperor Diocletian.
