Suellen is an English feminine name formed by combining Sue and Ellen, and it may also be treated as a contracted spelling of Sue Ellen. Sue is traditionally short for Susan, from Hebrew Shoshannah, associated with the lily or other flower, while Ellen is a medieval English form of Helen, whose Greek etymology is uncertain. The combination became especially familiar through Sue Ellen Ewing in the television series Dallas. Real-life bearers include American historian Suellen Hoy and Australian swimmer Suellen Emry.
