Sverre is a Norwegian masculine name from Old Norse Sverrir, probably related to a verb meaning “to whirl,” “swing,” or “move restlessly.” Its exact intended sense as an early personal name is not completely certain. King Sverre Sigurdsson, who ruled Norway in the twelfth century, gave it major historical prominence.
