Meaning and history
Tabitha means “gazelle” in Aramaic. In the New Testament, Tabitha was a woman restored to life by Saint Peter, and her name is rendered in Greek as Dorcas in Acts 9:36. The name became common in English after the Protestant Reformation and was further popularized in the 1960s by the television show Bewitched, where Tabitha, sometimes spelled Tabatha, is the daughter of the main character.
