Taj

Taj has distinct uses. In Arabic and Persian, تاج means “crown,” and it appears both independently and in compound names such as Taj al-Din, “crown of the faith.” The word is familiar internationally through the Taj Mahal, whose name means “Crown of the Palace” and commemorates Mumtaz Mahal. In South Asia and the English-speaking world, Taj is used for more than one gender. Notable bearers include American blues musician Taj Mahal, born Henry Saint Clair Fredericks Jr., and Australian professional surfer Taj Burrow.
