Meaning and history
Tamya is a modern feminine name of uncertain formation. It may be a variant of Tamia, an elaboration of Tammy, or a creative combination of familiar sounds. Tammy usually shortens Tamara, from Hebrew tamar, “date palm,” but that origin cannot automatically be transferred to every Tamya. Similar spellings in different communities may have independent sources. Reliable prominent bearers using exactly Tamya are limited, so claims of one universal ancient or religious meaning should be avoided.
Tamya moved from #910 to #963 for girls between 2003 and 2004. Its highest annual birth count came in 2003, with 262 births.
