Meaning and history
From an English surname derived from a place name meaning “Tata’s homestead” in Old English, Tatum came to public attention through child actress Tatum O’Neal (1963–) in the 1970s, though it did not become popular at that time. It later gained modest use after 1996, when a character in the film Scream bore the name.
Tatum moved from #195 to #202 for boys between 2024 and 2025. Its highest annual birth count came in 2024, with 1,841 births.
