Meaning and history
Tobiah comes from the Hebrew name טוֹבִיָּה (Ṭoviyya), meaning “Yahweh is good,” formed from טוֹב (ṭov), meaning “good,” and יָהּ (yah), a reference to the Hebrew God. It was also the name of an Ammonite mentioned in the Book of Nehemiah in the Old Testament.
