Turin means “victory mood” in the fictional language Sindarin. In J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Silmarillion (1977), Túrin was a cursed hero and the slayer of the dragon Glaurung, also known as Turambar, Mormegil, and by other names. Turin is also the Anglicized name of the Italian city of Torino.
