Meaning and history
Tyrone is a name taken from the county in Northern Ireland, whose name comes from the Irish Gaelic Tir Eoghain, meaning “land of Eoghan.” It became more widely known through the American actor Tyrone Power (1914–1958), who was named after his great-grandfather, an Irish actor.
Tyrone moved from #921 to #995 for boys between 2015 and 2017. Its highest annual birth count came in 1970, with 2,530 births.
