Meaning and history
This name comes from the Hebrew אוּרִיאֵל (ʾUriʾel), meaning “God is my light,” formed from אוּר (ʾur), “light” or “flame,” and אֵל (ʾel), “God.” In Hebrew tradition, Uriel is an archangel who appears only in the Apocrypha, including the Book of Enoch, where he warns Noah of the coming flood.
