Meaning uncertain, Vadim is used in Russian as a form of the saint’s name Bademus, though it may also derive from Slavic vaditi meaning “to accuse” or “to argue,” or from an Old Norse source. In legend, it was the name of a legendary leader of the Ilmen Slavs who fought against the Varangians.
