Venera is a feminine name used in Russian, Albanian, and several other languages of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. It is the local form of Venus, the Roman goddess of love and beauty, and also the name of the planet Venus. The Latin name Venus is related to a word for love, desire, or charm. In the Soviet Union, Venera was additionally the name of the pioneering series of probes sent to Venus. Notable bearers include Albanian singer Venera Lumani and Russian handball player Venera Chernyshova.
