Vénus is a Latin name meaning “love, sexual desire”; it was borne by the Roman goddess of love and sex, whose character was identified with the Greek Aphrodite. As the mother of Aeneas, she was regarded as an ancestor of the Roman people, and the second planet from the Sun is named after her.
