Meaning and history
Víctor is a Roman cognomen meaning “victor, conqueror” in Latin. It was common among early Christians and was borne by several early saints and three popes. Although rare as an English name in the Middle Ages, it was revived in the 19th century. A notable bearer was the French writer Victor Hugo (1802–1885), author of The Hunchback of Notre-Dame and Les Misérables.
Victor rose from #214 to #211 for boys between 2024 and 2025. Its highest annual birth count came in 1990, with 4,445 births.
